Au Revoir Taipei

Au Revoir Taipei (一頁台北)
Directed by Arvin Chen (陳駿霖)

Simply, Au Revoir Taipei is a lovely movie. It's not a masterpiece, but is truly cute and charming. I enjoyed a lot of the leisure tempo of this film. The cinema photography creates an atmosphere between real and surreal, hence Taipei becomes a dreamlike city. Story-wise and acting-wise etc., Au Revoir Taipei is not mature enough, but I just love the unripe quality.

There are many scenes with the same direct angle. Simple and pure. No complicated shooting; no complex plot. You just follow the characters moving through one space to anther space where you feel very comfortable with. It might be boring, but things would show differently at some point. I find the similarity in life. Going to the same places, ordering the same food, and reading the same books......

This movie cleverly connects two cities, Taipei and Paris. Paris as an amazing and romantic city which people might sniff at or think it's cliché. Whatever! why not just enjoy the imagination. While watching Au Revoir Taipei, you would appear a knowing smile if you know what I mean.

The song of Au Revoir Taipei.
