Before Midnight

It took me very long time to pluck up courage to watch Before Midnight. Why? Because I was afraid it would ruin the classics, Before Sunrise & Before Sunset

This time, the topics cover not only about relationships, meaning of love and philosophy, but also the realities of marriage, aging and children et centra. Surprisingly, those daily hassle discussions didn't bore me. Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) remain their charisma and create a different beautiful vibe of romance and love.

The walking, talking and fighting are still the core of this movie. I was amazed by how Celine's nitpicking versus Jesse's passive aggressive personality could match so well. While I felt one was crazy, then thought the behavior was understandable; When I didn't understand why their behaviors were so irrational, then I realized the same reactions might apply to me. The similar conflict feeling I got from the dinner scene in which several generations of couples and widowed partners discussed their philosophies of relationships.   I didn't particularly like that scene, but thought it's quite wise.

In all, a great movie I enjoyed very much. However, in my heart, the epic of Before... series stays at the ending of Before Sunset. The ambiguous smile Jesse left to the audiences which made everyone wonder if he caught the plane to get back his old life or stayed for a new extended romance. (For my version, of course he stayed). So, the best to position Before Midnight is seeing it as another movie.
