I watched Weekend on a sunny weekend. Unlike other homosexual movies, Weekend presents the relationship between two guys, Russell and Glen, in a close-to-reality way. No dramatic spark, plot, and pretending. Even the sex scene is just very natural. The only impertinent shoot that I still don't quite understand is the sudden jump out of the kiss scene to peek them from outside of the building. It inserts a strong random feeling to me.
I love there is something between Russell and Glen, not an awkwardness, but intimacy. What were talked about in their conversation are not new, but still are deep and expand my further thinking.
When Russell hugs Glen on the platform in the end, it shows how roles are interchangeable in a relationship. This does not only apply to homosexual love but also to heterosexual. No one is aways the dominant; the same to the opposite.
One thing that I have been trying to figure out. Why Russell hesitated to put on the new Nike sneaker? (Glen wears Adidas) What's the meaning behind wearing Nike and Adidas? Does each represent coming out and staying in the closet? If you have any clue, please let me know.
