Directed by Hakon Liu (劉漢威)
A Sweden/Taiwan film is the first inducement that lures me to watch Miss Kicki. I wonder how the director presents the story and Taiwan. Surprisingly, not many stereotype scenes are shown. Taiwan looks familiar as what I remember, but the cinema photography isolates the characters from the environments. Every character is the center of their own world. Maybe some of them share a mutual central universe.
The director said he was trying very hard to balance Swedish and Taiwanese cultures in the film. No matter how successful he had reduced the differences, there are still some uncomfortable and uneasy atmosphere in it. Somehow, the little conflict of being unable to fit in attracts me a lot. That is also the most beautiful thing of Miss Kicki.
Miss Kicki is the director's first film with very low budget, however, there is no excuse to be lenient on film critique. I would say it's not a master piece, but still a nice sketch movie.
